Basic rules
Begin by choosing from one of three starting abilities.
The game recommends the staff, which fires an arrow toward a random nearby enemy.
Each time you level up, you get a random selection of three abilities to choose from.
The abilities level up each time you choose them, becoming more effective.
Evade and attack monsters
Monsters will gradually approach you.
Equip yourself with abilities that allow you to attack enemies (hence the recommended starting ability).
As you level up, more monsters appear. Stronger ones also spawn.
Pick up the drops that the monsters leave behind.
Gems are the most common drop. Use these to level up.
Coins let you pay for upgrades.
Potions, which are rarer, help you replenish your health.
Level up.
Your level progress bar fills up each time you kill an enemy and collect the gem they leave behind.
Fill up the level progress bar and you go up a level.
You get to choose one of three randomly assigned upgrades.
With the right set of upgrades, you become nigh invincible in the late game.
Pick up and earn as many coins as you can. You can use these to buy permanent upgrades.
Survive for as long as you can.
The game saves both your high score and your longest survival time.
You can view both your latest and best survival times and scores on the game over screen.
Health
You begin with a full bar of health
Each time a monster attacks you, you lose a little health.
Collect potions to replenish your health.
You can also replenish your health and increase your health points by choosing an upgrade.
Upgrading your armor also helps you slow down your loss of health.
When you run out of health, you die.
You can get revived once. Wait 5 seconds after selecting the revive option on the first game over screen.
When you get revived, your health is replenished and your progress is maintained.
The revive is ad-powered, but as our site doesn’t have ads at the time of publishing, you only really need to wait. It’s on us for now.
Once you die and cannot get revived, it’s game over for real.
Select Retry on the game over screen to start a new session.
Buy health upgrades to increase your starting health.
Upgrades
There are 2 kinds of upgrades:
In-game upgrades are acquired through leveling up.
They don’t carry over from session to session.
You can acquire several of these upgrades at once to increase their effectiveness
Permanent upgrades are paid for through coins and carry over through all your sessions.
They have a ramping cost. Each new upgrade of a type costs more than the previous one in the same track.
For instance. A Level 1 health increase costs 50 coins, whereas a Level 2 increase costs 125.
All upgrades increase in costs the same way. All Level 1 upgrades cost 50 coins, and so on.
These are vital to increasing your odds of early-game survival. We recommend getting them as early as you can.
The in-game versions of these remain available even after you’ve maxed these out, so getting them substantially increases your offensive and defensive abilities in every other session.
You can only buy upgrades from the upgrades button on the game over screen.
Likewise, the coins you earn are only saved when you end with a game over.
There are 4 permanent upgrades:
Health: This increases the amount of hit points you begin with
Armor: This increases your odds of resisting enemy attacks, slowing down your loss of hit points.
Attack strength: This increases the amount of damage you cause enemies, allowing you to dispatch stronger enemies faster.
Speed: This increases your total speed.
In-game upgrades are as follows:
Staff
Staffs fire a bolt of energy at a random direction, usually toward your enemies.
Upgrading the staff increases the number of bolts you fire.
Daggers
This fires a series of daggers in the direction you are moving.
Upgrading increases the number of daggers you shoot.
Protective aura
This casts an aura around you that slowly harms enemies.
Weaker enemies at the edge of the aura will die, while stronger ones will be repulsed.
Upgrading the aura increases its area of effect.
Energy balls
This summons a slow moving ball that revolves around you, which deals damage to your enemies.
Each upgrade adds one more revolving ball.
Fireballs
These drop meteors at random places in the map.
If they land on the right spot, they can clear large groups of enemies quickly.
We recommend getting these in the late game, as you cannot control where they land.
Magnets:
Magnets allow you to pick up drops some distance away.
The range of the magnet increases each time you choose the upgrade.
Health boost
This not only increases your hit points but also replenishes the hit points you lost.
Attack boost
This increases your attack strength for the session.
Speed boost
This increases your speed for the session.
Armor boost
This reduces the damage dealt by enemies for the session.
