How to Play 28372k

Advance through the educational game, reading each slide to understand the water cycle. Beat the 3 interactive minigames embedded in the game.

  • Starting the Game
    • Press the red and white New Game button on the welcome screen to start the game.
    • Your web browser does not save your progress. If you close the game at any point you will have to start the game over from the beginning.
  • Game Controls
    • Desktop
      • Left click or tap the spacebar to advance through frames of the game.
      • In the first 2 minigames you need to use the left arrow and right arrow keys to move left and right.
      • In the final minigame you tap the spacebar to float upward and release to sink.
    • Touchscreen devices
      • This game was designed for play on computing devices with attached keyboards.
    • Controls & indicators
      • Most of the game is narration and exploration, though the 3 minigames inside it have status bars which indicate your progress and fill as you advance through them.
  • Game Play
    • This is an educational game about the water cycle, with multiple mini-games inside it.
    • Evaporation and Transpiration
      • Visit the ocean where 97% of the Earth’s water is located.
      • Use the left and right arrow keys to move a water molecule back and forth to absorb enough sunlight for it to evaporate into water vapor, become less dense, and float up into the atmosphere.
      • After you collect enough sunlight to float up the game explains how plants also release water vapor, and that process is called transpiration. Plants absorb water through their roots and then release water vapor through their leaves.
    • Condesation
      • Water vapor condenses into a cloud, converting from vapor back into a liquid.
      • You then play a mini-game where you move the cloud back and forth to collect water vapor while avoiding everything else.
      • Each water vapor you collect is worth 5 points and each other item subtracts 5 points.
      • When you reach 100% the minigame ends and the cloud starts raining.
      • Next the game explains that color air can cause the formation of snow, then mentions droplets carried upward by thunderstorm winds into cold areas of the atmosphere can crystallize the water and have it fall as hail.
    • Precipitation
      • Precipitation is explained by the process which liquid water or ice falls from the sky. The game notes that gravity is the main force driving the water cycle.
      • You then play a mini-game where you must avoid the birds & help a rain drop move side to side bouncing off the clouds until it makes its way to the ground. A meter on the right side of the screen shows how filled your status is & it must be completed to 100% before the minigame is complete.
    • Run-off and Infiltration
      • Infiltration is when droplets soak into the ground.
      • Water can travel through cracks between rocks underground, forming aquifers, which is where most of our drinking water comes from.
      • Freshwater is water without salt. Rivers containing freshwater flow to the oceans.
      • Rivers are formed by a process called runoff. Much of the water which is melted from glaciers or falls from the sky ends up traveling over the surface of the Earth and running into rivers, lakes, and the oceans.
      • You then play a Flappy Bird inspired game where you travel through the river, hitting the spacebar to float upward and sinking when you do not. Collect drops from the river until the meter is full, while avoiding the spiked barrier pieces.
      • After you fill the meter your drop reaches the ocean, and the game is over outside of the recap.
    • Recap
      • In the game recap no new information is shared, but you briefly cover the above 4 sections: evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and runoff.
      • After a slide on each section, you go back to the lab to tell DocDuck & the game ends.
  • Target Audience
    • The game is suited for players who like simple science games.
    • The game has no adult themed content.
