  • Game Play
    • Basics
      • This is a cute and simple pixelated platforming game where your goal is to help Low collect the coins and make it to the golden cup which appears after collecting all the coins.
      • The game features standard platforming features and a couple novel twits covered below.
    • Hit points
      • You start the game with 2 hit points.
        • Dots above your head indicate your health.
        • Each time you take damage you lose a hit point.
        • Some teal square boxes are scattered throughout the levels & some appear when you defeat select enemies. Picking up a teal box will give you another hit point.
      • Carrying health over
        • Each time you beat a level with only 1 hit point you will start the next stage with 2 hit points.
        • If you beat a level with more than 2 hit points you will carry the health over to the next level.
    • Features
      • Moving platforms – they automatically move on a set track back and forth. They may move:
        • horizontally
        • vertically
        • diagonally
        • in a circular pattern
      • Platforms you control – these operate similar to the other moving platforms, but you control their horizontal movement by where you stand on them.
        • These have arrows on either end which illuminate when movement in the direction of the arrow is activated.
        • Stand on the left edge to move left & stand on the right edge to move right.
      • Springs – jumping on these allows you to bounce higher.
      • Ladders – you can not go down ladders, but zip up them quickly.
        • You can defeat enemies (even enemies with spikes on the top) by timing your ladder moves so you hit the enemy from the underside.
      • Switch buttons – switch buttons can be hit to change which switch boxes are activated.
        • When you hit a switch button some boxes that were outline only become solid so you can walk on them, while some boxes that were solid go to outline only.
        • On most stages you typically want to hit switch buttons as soon as you can, however there are a few stages where you explicitly want to wait to hit them until after collecting wings or an umbrella & there is one level with about 50 switch buttons where you have to ensure both you and the walking enemies do not hit any of the buttons or you lose.
      • Switch boxes – switch status to filled or outline only whenever a switch button is hit.
      • Wings – when they are equipped they allow you to fly by tapping on the jump command repeatedly.
      • Umbrella – when this is equipped you can slowly glide downward by holding in the jump button after jumping.
    • Coins & cups
      • Each stage (other than the boss stages) have 5 coins on them.
      • Coins may be any combination of the following:
        • loosely scattered throughout the level
        • presented after you beat specific enemies
        • hidden behind barriers you must remove by activating a switch
        • above the field of view on the ceiling which you must walk to collect them
    • Enemies & hazards
      • Light blue walkers – these typically go back and forth in a fixed pattern on a single platform & take hit to defeat.
        • Jump on them to beat them.
        • When you land on them you can jump higher off them, enabling you to reach higher platforms.
        • In most cases they stay on a single platform. If they do not stay on a single platform that means there is a constant stream of them coming from an inlet on the other side.
      • Dark blue walkers – similar to the light blue walker, but has 2 hit points, so you have to jump on them twice.
        • Be careful on the first jump as sometimes they fling you off to a side after you jump on them the first time.
      • Teal walking shooters – They walk and shoot spikes at you.
        • Press down to crouch and fire their spikes back at them.
        • They die if one of their spikes get reflected into them.
        • When they die they may leave you a teal box, which turns into a hit point, as shown above your character.
      • Yellow bouncers – they keep repeatedly bouncing.
        • On most stages you run under them just after they jump.
      • Green bouncers – similar to yellow bouncers, except they pause for a bit at the bottom of their path, requiring you to pause a bit before running under them.
      • Gray spikes – these are stationary and take a hit point if you touch them.
      • Brown spikes – these fall down when you move near them & take a hit point if they hit you.
      • Cannon balls – cannons shoot them periodically along set paths on the same horizontal or vertical line. Hitting them takes a hit point.
    • Bosses
      • This game has 2 boss battles on levels 26 and 32.
      • First boss: On level 26 you have and endless wave of small blue enemies and one big blue boss enemy.
        • You jump onto a small blue enemy to defeat it and use the momentum from that to jump atop the larger blue enemy.
        • Repeatedly bounce on the boss while avoiding bullets and falling enemies until you do 10 hit points of damage.
      • Second boss: on level 32 you face an endless stream of teal enemies which shoot their spikes at you, and a big boss in the middle.
        • What you have to do is get one of the enemies from either side to shoot at you, then you quickly run under the boss & across, jump up, and deflect the shot back from the other side of the screen.
        • Repeat the process 10 times while avoiding running into either falling bombs or the spikes while standing up.
    • Levels
      • This game has 32 stages which are unlocked sequentially.
        • You can’t go back and replay previously beat levels without starting the game over.
        • Press and hold on the RESET LEVELS button in the lower left of the welcome screen to reset your game progress.
      • Winning vs losing
        • To beat a level you must safely make it to the cup.
          • On most stages you need to collect 5 coins for the cup to appear.
          • On boss battles you have to beat the boss for the cup to appear.
          • If the cup is offscreen an arrow will point either left or right to the direction you need to travel to make it to the cup.
    • Tips
      • Patience
        • This is a game which requires great patience as it is very easy to get frustrated and mess up a pattern.
        • When you rush things and make them more complex it is easy to make an error.
        • Some small areas are complex or easy to make an error on. It helps to rest just before entering those areas so you enter with a clear mind and enter at the optimal timing.
      • Clean play
        • It is usually best to defeat the enemies which are possible to beat as you come across them.
          • This game requires you to go back and forth quite a bit.
          • The game is easier with fewer enemies to encounter, and some of the enemies hold coins you need to collect.
        • For enemies which you can not jump on top of see if there is a ladder you could time racing up to knock them off platform from the underside.
        • On the level before the first boss you quickly have to defeat the first walking enemy & then need to not allow any of them to run into a switch while ensuring you do not hit a switch either.
          • When jumping at walking enemies let them come to you and jump onto them in areas with higher ceilings and no nearby buttons that you could accidentally bump.
      • Consistency
        • The same enemies which hold coins in a particular level will be the ones holding coins the next time you play a stage.
        • Most levels require you complete them in a particular way, with it being required to grab wings, pick up an umbrella, or activate a switch in order to be able to access other parts of the level.
        • If you are having trouble finding a coin and have defeated all the beatable enemies on a stage then the coin may be hiding along the roof or ceiling of the game. On multiple stages you need to across the top.
  • Target Audience
    • The game is suited for players who like cute platformer games.
      • Games in this series get more challenging as you progress through the series, so it is recommended to start with Low’s Adventures 2 before playing Low’s Adventures 3.
    • The game has no adult themed content.
